Naxos is a Greek island located within the Cyclades island group. It holds the distinction of being the largest island in this archipelago. The island's capital and primary town is Chora, also known as Naxos City, which serves as the central hub for the local population.
Historically, the island was a significant center during both the Bronze Age Cycladic Culture and the Ancient Greek Archaic Period. It is notably famous for being a source of emery, a rock rich in corundum that served as one of the highest quality abrasives available until modern times.
The island has a total population of 20,578 people, with approximately 8,897 residents living in Chora. Other primary villages on the island include Filoti, Apiranthos, Vivlos, Agios Arsenios, Koronos, and Glynado.
