Ilioupoli is a suburban municipality and town situated in the central-southern part of the Athens agglomeration within the Central Athens regional unit of Greece.
The name Ilioupoli is the modern form of Heliopolis, an ancient city located in Egypt. Urban development in the area began around 1924 following the settlement of Greek refugees from Asia Minor.
