Pylos, historically known as Navarino, is a town and former municipality located in the Messenia region of the Peloponnese, Greece. It serves as the seat of the municipality Pylos-Nestoras, which was established following the 2011 local government reform. The town also served as the capital of the former Pylia Province.
The town functions as the primary harbor on the Bay of Navarino. As of 2021, the municipal unit of Pylos covers an area of 143.911 km2 and has a population of 4,559 inhabitants, while the town itself has a population of 2,568. Nearby villages include Gialova, Pyla, Elaiofyto, Schinolakka, and Palaionero.
