Nemea was an ancient sanctuary located in the northeastern part of the Peloponnese region in modern-day Greece. Situated within the regional unit of Corinthia, the site was formerly part of the territory of Cleonae in ancient Argolis.
The location served as neutral ground on the borders of the ancient regions of Archaia, Arcadia, Argolis, and Corinth, making it an ideal site for a panhellenic religious center. It hosted one of the four prestigious Panhellenic games, alongside those held at Delphi, Isthmia, and Olympia.
The Nemean Games were a significant cultural event, notably celebrated in eleven of Pindar's odes. The sanctuary remains a key historical site associated with these ancient athletic and religious traditions.
