Argostolion

Greece

Argostoli is a town and municipality located on the island of Kefalonia within the Ionian Islands of Greece. Following the 2019 local government reform, it serves as one of the three municipalities on the island.

The town has functioned as the capital and administrative center of Kefalonia since 1757. This transition occurred after a population shift from the former capital, Agios Georgios (also known as Kastro), to Argostoli to utilize the trading opportunities provided by its sheltered bay.
