Volos is a coastal port city located in the Thessaly region of Greece. Situated midway on the Greek mainland, it lies approximately 170 kilometres north of Athens and 140 kilometres south of Thessaloniki. The city serves as the capital of the Magnesia regional unit.
As the only outlet to the sea from Thessaly, the country's largest agricultural region, Volos functions as a significant industrial centre. Its port is noted for providing a maritime bridge between Europe and Asia. As of 2021, the city had a population of 85,803.
