Sofades is a town and municipality located in the Thessaly region of central Greece, within the regional unit of Karditsa. Situated at an elevation of approximately 120 meters above sea level, it is positioned south of Palamas, southwest of Larissa, northwest of Lamia, and southeast of both Karditsa and Trikala.
The municipality has a population of 18,864 as of the 2011 census, which includes a significant Romani community. The local economy is primarily based on agriculture. The native Greek inhabitants of this region are commonly referred to as Karagounides.
