Kozani is a city located in northern Greece, serving as the capital of both the Kozani regional unit and Western Macedonia. It is situated in the western part of Macedonia within the northern section of the Aliakmonas river valley at an elevation of 710 metres above sea level.
The city is positioned between the mountains of Pieria, Vermio, Vourinos, and Askio, approximately 120 km southwest of Thessaloniki and 15 km northwest of the artificial lake Polyfytos. The Kozani municipality has a population exceeding 67,000 people. The region experiences a continental climate characterized by hot summers and cold, dry winters.
