Litochoro

Greece

Litochoro is a town and former municipality located in the southern part of the Pieria regional unit in Macedonia, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform, it has served as the seat of the Dio-Olympos municipality and functions as one of its municipal units.

The town is situated at the base of Mount Olympus on the western shore of the Thermaic Gulf. Its earliest recorded mention dates back to a 16th-century account describing a visit by Saint Dionysius to Mount Olympus. Today, Litochoro is a prominent destination for mountaineers, as nearly all climbing routes for the mountain begin to the southwest of the town.
