Katerini is a city and municipality located in northern Greece. It serves as the capital of the Pieria regional unit within the region of Central Macedonia. Situated on the Pierian plain at an altitude of 14 meters, the city is positioned between Mount Olympus and the Thermaikos Gulf.
The municipality has a population of 82,891, making it the second most populous urban area in the Macedonian region after Thessaloniki. Its development has been influenced by its proximity to Thessaloniki, which lies approximately 68 kilometers away. The city is accessible via the A1/E75 Athens–Thessaloniki motorway and the A2 motorway to the north.
Transportation infrastructure in Katerini includes a comprehensive regional and national bus service with a central hub. It is also served by Intercity, Proastiakos, and local trains along the main Athens-Thessaloniki railway line.
