Kassandreia is a town and community located in the Chalkidiki region of northern Greece. It serves as the seat of the municipality of Kassandra and is situated in the center of the peninsula. As of the 2021 census, the town had a population of 3,158 residents.
The town was formerly known as Valta before being renamed in 1955. It takes its name from the ancient city of Cassandrea, which was located near the village. This ancient site was originally called Potidaea and was later enlarged and renamed by Cassander, a ruler of Macedonia. Historical records suggest that during this period, the channel separating the peninsula from the mainland was dredged to facilitate naval activities.
The modern town is built on the site of the ancient city of Cassandrea. While it carries the name Kassandreia, the location is also referred to as New Potidaea, or Nea Poteidaia in Greek, reflecting its historical roots as the original site of Potidaea.
