Vermont is a landlocked state located in the New England region of the Northeastern United States. It shares borders with Massachusetts to the south, New Hampshire to the east, New York to the west, and the Canadian province of Quebec to the north.
The state is the sixth-smallest U.S. state by total area and has an estimated population of 644,663, making it the second-least populated state in the nation. Its capital, Montpelier, holds the distinction of being the least populous state capital in the United States.
Vermont is also notable for its urban demographics; no other U.S. state has a most populous city with fewer residents than Vermont's largest city, Burlington.
