Philipsbourg is a city located in Guadeloupe.
While there is a historical site known as Philipsburg Manor located north of New York City in Westchester County, it is distinct from the city of Philipsbourg. The manor was an estate originally part of a Dutch patroonship owned by Adriaen van der Donck, which was later purchased by Dutch-born Frederick Philipse I and his partners.
In 1693, Philipse was granted a royal charter for the 52,000-acre estate, becoming its first lord. The Philipse family accumulated a significant fortune through associations with prominent merchants and political figures, as well as connections to criminal elements such as pirates and slave traders.
