Yama is a city located in Ghana. However, it is important to distinguish this geographical location from the figure of the same name in Hindu mythology. In religious contexts, Yama—also known as Kāla or Dharmarāja—is the Hindu god of death and justice.
In Hindu tradition, Yama is responsible for the dispensation of law and the punishment of sinners within his abode, Naraka. He is frequently identified with Dharmadeva, the personification of Dharma, although the two deities possess distinct origins and myths.
