Tema New Town

Ghana

Tema is a city located on the Bight of Benin and Atlantic coast in the Greater Accra region of Ghana. Situated approximately 25 kilometres east of the capital city, Accra, it serves as the capital of the Tema Metropolitan District. The city is notable for being intersected by the Greenwich Meridian and is home to the Meridian Rock.

Known locally as the "Harbour City," Tema functions as Ghana's largest seaport. The urban area consists of 25 distinct communities, each numbered and designed to provide residents with access to basic amenities. As of 2013, it was the eleventh most populous settlement in Ghana, with a population of approximately 161,612.
