Tema is a city located on the Bight of Benin and Atlantic coast in the Greater Accra region of Ghana. Situated approximately 25 kilometres east of the capital city, Accra, it serves as the capital of the Tema Metropolitan District. The city is notable for being intersected by the Greenwich Meridian and was formerly home to the Meridian Rock.
Known locally as the "Harbour City," Tema functions as Ghana's largest seaport. As of 2013, it was the eleventh most populous settlement in the country with a population of approximately 161,612 people. The city is organized into 25 different communities, each designed to provide residents with easy access to basic amenities.
