Gbawe is a town situated in the Greater Accra Region of southeastern Ghana, located just a few kilometres west of the capital city, Accra. It falls under the jurisdiction of the Ga South Municipal Assembly and was founded more than 100 years ago.
The settlement has experienced significant growth over the last several decades. In the 1970 census, it was ranked as the 608th largest settlement in Ghana with a population of 837 residents; by the year 2000, that figure had risen to 28,989. Current data identifies Gbawe as the twenty-third largest settlement in the country, with a population of approximately 74,403 people.
While it is located near the capital, the town currently maintains a more rural structure within large-scale marked suburban development areas.
