Zugdidi is a city located in the western Georgian historical province of Samegrelo, also known as Mingrelia. It serves as the capital of the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region, which encompasses both Samegrelo and the upper part of Svaneti. The city functions as the administrative center of the Zugdidi Municipality.
Situated in the northwest of the province, Zugdidi is positioned 318 kilometres west of Tbilisi. It lies approximately 30 kilometres from the Black Sea coast and 30 kilometres from the Egrisi Range at an elevation of 100–110 metres above sea level. It ranks as the sixth most populous city in Georgia.
