Batumi is the second-largest city in Georgia and serves as the capital of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara. Located in the country's southwest, it sits on the coast of the Black Sea approximately 20 kilometres north of the Turkish border. The city is situated within a subtropical zone at the foot of the Caucasus mountains.
The local economy is primarily centered on tourism and gambling, though Batumi also functions as an important seaport. Key industrial sectors in the region include shipbuilding, food processing, and light manufacturing. Since 2010, the city's landscape has been significantly altered by the construction of modern high-rise buildings alongside the restoration of classical 19th-century structures in its historic Old Town.
