Wrexham is a city located in the north-east of Wales, situated between the Welsh mountains and the lower Dee Valley near the border with Cheshire, England. Historically part of the county of Denbighshire, it became part of the new county of Clwyd in 1974 and has served as the principal settlement and administrative centre of Wrexham County Borough since 1996.
The city was officially awarded city status in 2022. According to the 2021 census, the built-up area of Wrexham had a population of 44,785, making it the largest city in North Wales and the seventh largest in Wales overall. The wider county borough, which encompasses surrounding rural areas and villages, has a total population of 135,117.
