Brynmawr is a market town, community, and electoral ward located in Blaenau Gwent, Wales. Situated at the head of the South Wales Valleys, it is sometimes cited as the highest town in Wales, with elevations ranging between 1,250 and 1,500 feet above sea level.
The town developed during the early 19th century alongside the growth of the coal mining and iron industries. Historically, Brynmawr was administered as part of the county of Brecknockshire until a reorganization of local authorities took place in 1974.
