Motherwell is a town and former burgh located in North Lanarkshire, Scotland. It is situated approximately 12 miles (19 km) southeast of Glasgow and serves as the headquarters for the North Lanarkshire Council. The town has a population of around 32,120.
Geographically, Motherwell is defined by several nearby water bodies. The River Clyde separates the town from Hamilton to the west, while the South Calder Water marks its boundaries with Carfin to the northeast and New Stevenston and Bellshill to the north. Historically, it was part of the parish of Dalziel in Lanarkshire.
