Kilmarnock, also known colloquially as Killie, is a town and former burgh located in East Ayrshire in southwest Scotland. The name Kilmarnock translates to "the church of Mernóc." Since 1996, the town has served as the administrative centre for the East Ayrshire Council and remains the primary commercial and industrial hub for the region.
The town features a significant amount of heritage architecture, with 284 listed buildings and structures designated by Historic Environment Scotland. Notable examples include Dean Castle, the Dick Institute, Loanhead School, and the original 1898 building of Kilmarnock Academy. Additionally, some post-war developments from the 1970s regeneration period, such as the Clydesdale Bank building, have been granted Category C status.
