The Isle of Lewis, often referred to simply as Lewis, is the northern portion of the island of Lewis and Harris. It is located in Scotland and constitutes the largest island within the Outer Hebrides archipelago, also known as the Western Isles.
While geographically part of a single landmass shared with Harris, the two areas are frequently referred to as if they were separate islands. The total area of Lewis encompasses 683 square miles (1,770 km2).
