Glasgow is the most populous city in Scotland, situated on the banks of the River Clyde in west central Scotland. It ranks as the third-most populous city in the United Kingdom and the 27th-most populous city in Europe. The city is divided into 23 wards representing the areas within its boundaries.

The city serves as a major hub for university education, research, finance, industry, commerce, shopping, culture, fashion, and tourism. Historically, Glasgow was frequently referred to as the "second city of the British Empire" during much of the Victorian and Edwardian eras.
