East Kilbride, often referred to as EK, is a town located in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. It is the largest town within its county and ranks as the sixth-largest locality in the United Kingdom by population. The area is situated on a raised plateau to the south of the Cathkin Braes, approximately eight miles southeast of Glasgow and near the boundary with East Renfrewshire.
Historically a small village, East Kilbride underwent significant expansion after being designated as Scotland's first "new town" on May 6, 1947. This designation led to the wide development of the area into its current size and layout.
