Dalkeith is a town located in Midlothian, Scotland, situated on the banks of the River Esk. The settlement originated from a 12th-century castle and expanded primarily toward the southwest over time.
The town was granted the status of a burgh of barony in 1401 and subsequently became a burgh of regality in 1541. According to the 2011 census, Dalkeith had a population of 12,342 people.
