Broxburn is a town located in West Lothian, Scotland. It is situated approximately 12 miles (19 km) from the West End of Edinburgh and 5 miles (8.0 km) north of Livingston. The town lies just to the south of Winchburgh and is positioned about 5 miles (8.0 km) from Edinburgh Airport.
Originally known as the village of Easter Strathbock during the medieval period, the area became known as Broxburn by 1600. The town experienced rapid development during the Victorian era due to industrialization driven by shale oil extraction. While much of this industry has since diminished, the town continues to expand through new residential development, forming a conurbation with the neighboring village of Uphall.
