Newtownabbey is a large settlement located north of Belfast city centre in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It forms part of the Belfast metropolitan area and is governed as part of the Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council. The settlement was established through the merging of several smaller villages, including Whiteabbey, Glengormley, and Carnmoney.
Geographically, Newtownabbey surrounds Carnmoney Hill and is separated from the rest of Belfast by the Cavehill and Fortwilliam golf course. According to the 2021 census, the Metropolitan Newtownabbey Settlement had a population of 67,599. This figure makes it the third largest settlement in Northern Ireland and the seventh largest on the Island of Ireland.
