Enniskillen is the largest town in County Fermanagh, located in Northern Ireland. Situated in the middle of the county, it lies between the Upper and Lower sections of Lough Erne. As of the 2021 census, the town had a population of 14,086.
The town serves as the county town of Fermanagh and was formerly the seat of local government for the Fermanagh District Council. It is located within a civil parish of the same name. A notable historical landmark in the area is Enniskillen Castle, which was constructed in the 15th century as a stronghold for the Maguires before passing to English control in the early 17th century.
Following its transition to English control, both the castle and the town underwent expansion during the Plantation of Ulster. These historical developments remain central to the identity of the settlement today.
