Banbridge is a town located in County Down, Northern Ireland. Situated on the River Bann and along the A1 road, it is situated within the civil parish of Seapatrick and the historic barony of Iveagh Upper, Upper Half. The town derives its name from a bridge constructed over the River Bann in 1712.
Historically, Banbridge developed as a coaching stop on the route between Belfast and Dublin and experienced significant growth through Irish linen manufacturing. It previously served as the headquarters for the former Banbridge District Council. Following a 2015 local government reform, the town became part of the Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council. As of the 2021 census, the population was recorded at 17,400.
