Whitley Bay is a seaside town located in the North Tyneside borough of Tyne and Wear, England. Situated within the wider Tyneside built-up area, it lies approximately 10 miles (16 km) north-east of Newcastle upon Tyne city centre.
Historically, the town was governed as part of Northumberland before becoming part of Tyne and Wear in 1974. According to the 2021 census, Whitley Bay has a population of 38,323 residents.
