Wales is a country located on the island of Great Britain as part of the United Kingdom. The nation covers a total area of 21,218 square kilometres (8,192 sq mi) and features over 2,700 kilometres (1,680 mi) of coastline.
The geography of Wales is largely mountainous, with the highest peaks situated in the central and northern regions; Snowdon serves as the country's highest summit. The region lies within the north temperate zone and experiences a changeable maritime climate. As of 2021, Wales had a population of 3.2 million people, and its capital and largest city is Cardiff.
