Startforth is a village located in England at the Pennines end of south Teesdale. Historically, it was part of the North Riding of Yorkshire. According to the 2011 Census, the village had a population of 1,361 residents.
The village was formerly situated within the Startforth Rural District. On April 1, 1974, under the provisions of the Local Government Act 1972, it was transferred to County Durham for both administrative and ceremonial purposes.
