St Albans is a cathedral city located in Hertfordshire, England. It is situated approximately 20 miles (32 km) north-west of London, positioned between Hemel Hempstead to the east and Hatfield to the west. The city also lies about 8 miles (13 km) south-west of Welwyn Garden City and 11 miles (18 km) south-east of Luton.
Historically, St Albans served as the first major town for travelers heading north along the ancient Roman road of Watling Street. During the Roman period, the settlement was known as the city of Verulamium. The current population of the city is 82,146.
