South Shields is a coastal port town located in South Tyneside, Tyne and Wear, England. Situated on the south bank of the mouth of the River Tyne, it serves as one of the significant settlements within the region.
Historically, the area was known by the names Arbeia during Roman times and Caer Urfa during the Early Middle Ages. As of 2021, South Shields had a population of 75,337, making it the fourth largest settlement in Tyne and Wear, following Newcastle upon Tyne, Sunderland, and Gateshead.
