As of 2021, the town had a population of 81,286, making it the third most populous settlement in the county after Lincoln and Grimsby.
Geographically, Scunthorpe is situated north of Lincoln. It lies between Grimsby to the east and Doncaster to the west, with Hull located to the north-east via the Humber Bridge.
