Royal Tunbridge Wells is a town located in Kent, England, situated approximately 30 miles southeast of Central London. It lies on the northern edge of the High Weald near the border with East Sussex, an area characterized by sandstone geology exemplified by the High Rocks formation.
The town gained prominence as a spa during the Restoration and became a fashionable resort in the mid-1700s under Beau Nash. Visitors were primarily attracted to its chalybeate spring and the Pantiles. While its popularity as a spa destination declined with the rise of sea bathing, the town continues to generate significant income from tourism.
In 1909, King Edward VII granted the town the prefix "Royal." It remains one of only three towns in England to hold this specific title.
