Pontefract is a historic market town located in the City of Wakefield within the metropolitan district of West Yorkshire, England. It is situated to the east of Wakefield and south of Castleford.
Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, the town had a recorded population of 30,881 during the 2011 Census.
