Partington is a town and civil parish located in the Metropolitan Borough of Trafford, within Greater Manchester, England. It is situated approximately ten miles (16 km) south-west of Manchester city centre.
The settlement lies on the southern bank of the Manchester Ship Canal, positioned directly opposite Cadishead on the northern bank. Historically, Partington was located within the boundaries of the county of Cheshire. As of the 2001 census, the town had a population of 7,327.
