Nottingham is a city and unitary authority area located in Nottinghamshire, within the East Midlands region of England. It is situated approximately 42 miles (68 km) south-east of Sheffield and 54 miles (87 km) north-east of Birmingham.
The settlement was granted its city charter in 1897 as part of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee celebrations and serves as the county town of Nottinghamshire. Historically, the city is associated with the tobacco, bicycle, and lace-making industries. It is also famously known as the legendary home of Robin Hood's Sheriff of Nottingham.
In addition to its industrial heritage, Nottingham is designated as a UNESCO "City of Literature."
