Irlam is a suburb located in the City of Salford within Greater Manchester, England. It sits on flat ground situated on the south side of the M62 motorway and the north bank of the Manchester Ship Canal. The area is positioned approximately 6.7 miles southwest of Salford, 7.6 miles southwest of Manchester, and 8.3 miles northeast of Warrington.
The suburb forms a continuous urban area with Cadishead to its southwest. It is separated from Flixton and the Metropolitan Borough of Trafford to the southeast by the Manchester Ship Canal. The A57 serves as the main road through Irlam, providing a link to Eccles and Cadishead, while Irlam railway station provides local rail services to the district.
