Hornchurch is a suburban town located in east London within the London Borough of Havering. Situated approximately 15.2 miles (24.5 km) east-northeast of Charing Cross, the area consists primarily of large residential zones and several shopping streets.
Historically, Hornchurch was an ancient parish in the county of Essex that eventually became the manor and liberty of Havering. Its economic history is defined by a transition from agriculture to other industries as nearby Romford developed into a major market town and administrative center. During the 20th century, the town underwent significant expansion and population growth, leading to its designation as an urban district in 1926 and its incorporation into Greater London in 1965.
