Hitchin is a market town located in the North Hertfordshire district of Hertfordshire, England. It is situated in the valley of the River Hiz at the north-eastern end of the Chiltern Hills. The town's history dates back to at least the 7th century.
Geographically, Hitchin is positioned approximately 16 miles (26 km) north-west of Hertford and 35 miles (56 km) north of London. According to the 2021 census, the town had a population of 35,220.
