Hendon is an urban area located in the London Borough of Barnet in northwest London. It is situated approximately 7 miles (11 km) northwest of Charing Cross. Historically, the area served as an ancient manor and parish within the county of Middlesex and was formerly known as the Municipal Borough of Hendon.
The area has been a part of Greater London since 1965. Geographically, Hendon falls almost entirely within the NW4 postcode, though the section known as West Hendon is located in the NW9 postcode. While Colindale to the northwest was once considered part of Hendon, it is now separated from the area by the M1 motorway.
