Guildford is a town located in west Surrey, England, situated approximately 27 miles (43 km) southwest of central London. It serves as the seat of the wider Borough of Guildford, which had a population of around 151,359 inhabitants as of 2024. The town itself had a population of about 77,000 according to the 2011 census.
The name Guildford is believed to originate from a crossing of the River Wey. This river is a tributary of the River Thames and flows directly through the town centre.
