Great Yarmouth, often referred to as Yarmouth, is a seaside town located in Norfolk, England. It serves as the namesake for the wider Borough of Great Yarmouth and is situated approximately 20 miles east of Norwich. The town straddles the River Yare.
Historically known for its fishing industry, particularly for herring, the town saw this sector shrink after the mid-20th century until it nearly ended. Since the 1960s, the local economy has shifted toward the oil and gas industries, servicing offshore rigs in the North Sea. More recently, the region has expanded to include offshore wind power and other renewable energy industries.
As of 2021, the built-up area of Great Yarmouth had a population of 28,985 residents.
