Gravesend is a town located in northwest Kent, England. It is situated on the south bank of the River Thames, approximately 21 miles (35 km) east-southeast of Charing Cross and directly opposite Tilbury in Essex. The town serves as the administrative centre for the borough of Gravesham and falls within the Diocese of Rochester.
The area marks the eastern limit of the Greater London Built-up Area according to the UK Office for National Statistics. As of 2021, the population of Gravesend was approximately 60,250.
