The city has a population of approximately 132,000, including its suburban areas. Geographically, it sits 17 miles east of the England and Wales border and is located within 33 miles of Bristol. Gloucester functions as a port, maintaining a connection to the Severn Estuary via the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal.
