Folkestone is a coastal town situated in Kent, south-east England. It is located on the English Channel, positioned at a valley between two cliffs on the southern edge of the North Downs.
Historically, Folkestone served as an important shipping port and harbour. During most of the 19th and mid-20th centuries, it was also recognized as a fashionable coastal resort.
